Tomb Raider 3 Cheats & Tips

Eyes of TR fans brightened as they went to their favorite websites and boards and found the long awaited cheats for the PC version of TR3. I, for one, have them right here. Thanks to http://www.tombraiders.com for posting them for everyone to see, and thanks to Heath418@aol.com for informing me of them. Also, I now have some PSX and Gameshark codes from CheatCode Central In addition, I have an editor PC owners can use for extra weapons/medipaks on my downloads page. Click here to bypass cheats and go directly to tips.

All Weapons (PC)

Draw pistols. (Supposedly hot key 1, but that doesn't work on mine. Just hit space after selecting pistols.) Then take one step backwards, one step forward, squat then release key, turn around three times, then jump backwards.

Level Skip (PC)

Do above, except jump forwards.

Cheap Explosion (PC)

Do either of the two codes above but don't draw your pistols. Lara will die in a cheap explosion that pales in coolness to the one you get when Lara neglects to light a flare in TR2 before doing a code.

Wall Bug

Looking Down at Obstacle Course Pool

Looking Down at Race Track

Died Attempting to Jump To Race Course Hedge

In Tomb Raider 3 you can still use the "wall bug" to magically transport to the top of the pillars in Lara's obstacle course. Fortunately, I made mistake in an earlier report that said that it was not possible to get to her roof in TR3. Although the TR2 method of access (jumping to a green hedge on the edges of her grounds) has been blocked off by invisible walls, you can still get to her roof. There's much more to explore there than there was before.
To get to her roof, first use the corner bug as you normally would. If you don't know how to do it see the link at
my TR2 cheats and tips page. (Note, it is more difficult to do in TR3, you may have to attempt it many times. The first time you do, it may throw you off a bit because she appears to be floating. She is really on a small platform and if you run or jump anywhere she'll fall and die. So here's what to do. Walk her to the edge facing the red platform. Take one walking step back and jump forward to that. Walk her to the corner of that platform that appears to be facing her roof. (It is.) Hop back, then do a running jump forward, angled to the right. (I previously put to the left, please please ignore that.) If you do it right, you will land on her roof. There's a lot to explore there, just don't attempt to jump down anywhere or Lara will die. If you really want to get down, dive into water. Also, sliding and hanging down from the edge she first landing on will drop her back into water.

Lara's basement and race course key

Go to the Library. When Lara walks in the doorway, there are two bookcases to the right. Approach the one on the left and press Action. Then, Lara will pull a book and the fire will extinguish, allowing her to climb up the side wall inside the fireplace. After reaching the top, follow the passageways until reaching a room with two levels, with a switch on the top level. Pull the blocks in a way that a hallway leading into the attic is revealed. When Lara pulls the switch, the basement door will temporarily open. Quickly run through the attic, and down to the main hall to reach the basement. Once in the basement, walk through to the second room and look in the tank on the right side. Inside is the key to the race course. To collect it, pull the block in the other room to the center. Climbing up to the hall that leads into the tank.

Lara's Museum

Activate the switch behind the diving board in Lara's pool room. Then, go to the door it opens in her main hall. Pull the switch, sprint straight across her lobby and roll into her museum. Artifacts including The Dagger of Xian are in her museum. -From: David Nield and Andrew Holland
-Note From GeorgTrek: This is one of the most difficult timed traps I've ever done in TR.

Hedge Hopping

Hedge Hopping

There is a neat trick that allows you to complete Lara's quad racetrack in under ten seconds. It involves a small bump near the beginning of her race course. When you "hop" over it takes you to near the very end of her course. For full instructions and pictures on how to do it, see this page on The Croft Times.

Killing Statue Warriors

Ha! This is so easy, you'll hit yourself. All you have to do is jump up onto a plaform, and fire off a few shots. When it puts its swords up, run near it to get him to retract them. Then go back to the platform for more potshots. If there is no platform, then just run around like mad. And in the area with the platform where there are two statues, just drop and hang from the platform to get them to retract their swords.

Laser-Targeting MPs

These are easy too. If they can't target you, then what good are they. Just side flip to the left, and then to the right while firing your pistols. Keep doing this until they're down. Really down! In case you haven't noticed, they're not done when they drop. If you let down your guard, they can get off a couple more shots on you before dying.

Saved Game Bug

There is a "saved game" bug that forces you to reload a saved backup or use codes to get back to where you where. When you save in some locations, it corrupts the save game data, and you end up running up against an invisible wall or improperly rendered lock. I recommend saving a backup in another slot (when you're in a relatively safe open area) every 5 to 10 saves or more depending on how often you save. For more descriptive info, check out http://www.tombraiders.com

Flare Bug

This is easy to overlook, but sometimes Lara forgets to get rid of her unlit flares. Try lighting a flare, and then going into a crawl space or some other area where Lara can't conveniently discard her unlit flare. You'll find that sometimes she'll neglect to discard her flare when she leaves the cramped area. It'll stay that way until you draw another flare or a weapon. Also, note, if you have TR2, here's something to try out. Immediately light a flare after killing the big bad boss. You'll find that she's holding it in the shower.

Crash Site

There's a lot of stuff here that isn't documented in the walkthroughs or strategy guide. When you get on top of the plane, the strategy guide tells you drop into the hole. However, if you explore some, you'll find various areas you can go to, including one that has an SGC and a medipak. Also, there's a little something to look for at the end of the level. As soon as you've blown away the cliff wall, jump across to the other side where you're safe from the dinos. Then, watch the action. If you wait long enough, you'll notice that they're eating each other!

False Cheat Code (All Weapons, not!)

The cheat codes above are the codes for Tomb Raider 3. If you can't get them to work, e-mail me and I will help you. If anyone tells you anything else, they've made it up. Here's one example of a false cheat code. Enter it if you're totally bored:

Turn left, turn right, jump straight up 3 times, sidestep right four times then left 3 times, then right 1. Jump and pull out guns. Fire 3 times. Jump straight up and sidestep twice to each side starting with right. Then holster guns and do a somersault backwards. (A false cheat will probably long and complex with vague instructions.)
